GEORGES BIZET was a French composer best known for his 1875 opera Carmen. However, an early symphony composed at the age of 17 as a student assignment has gained lasting fame as a masterwork of the genre. The symphony was not performed during Bizet's short lifetime but was rediscovered in 1933, becoming a concert favorite and one of the most well known French symphonies of the 19th century.
